........................Dr. Radhanath Rath was born in a village named “Radhanathpur Shashan” of Aathgarh. He passed his matriculation from Ravenshaw Collegiate School in the year 1917. His financial status didn’t permit him to study further. So he joined the forest department of Singhbhum district as a Clerk. He wasn’t satisfied with the job as he was interested in serving country. So he left the job in 1919 and joined the ‘Satyabadi press’ of Sri Gopabandhu Das. Then they started the weekly magazine “Samaj”. Gopabandhu Das was the editor and Radhanath Rath was the Manager of the “Samaj”.

........................After the death of Sri Gopabandhu Das in the year 1928, Pundit Lingaraj Mishra worked as the editor of the “Samaj”. In the year 1930, the daily publication of Samaj was initiated. During 1946-1952 Lingaraj Mishra worked as the education minister of Orissa. So Radhanath Rath became the Editor of the “Samaj”. Radhanath Rath became the Finance and Education Minister in the Nabakrishna Choudhury Govt for the period 1952 to 1959. In the year 1959 he held the post of minister of development & forest department under the Harekrishna Mahtab’s govt. During this period he has proved his administrative ability. He withdrew himself from active politics in the year 1961 and returned back to ‘Samaj’ again as the editor. From then onwards he dedicated rest of his life for the “Samaj” organisation. Today Samaj is considered as the most famous and the most circulated daily only because of his inspiration and dedication. Starting form writing news, composing them, printing the news to managing the office, he has worked in each field . Even he has sold the copies of the daily Samaj.

........................He has been imprisoned in the year 1942 for participating in the Quit India Movement. He was a lifetime member and President of the Orissa branch of the ‘Loksevak Mandal organisation’ set up by Lala Lajpat Rai of Punjab. He was the head of the All Indian Scout and Guides Association, Orissa. He was also related to many other organisations like the Hind leprosy eradication group, the Gopabandhu Daridra Narayan Seva Sangha. He was also the Deputy Din of the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology. He has written many poems, stories and biographies. “Mo Jel Smruti Lipi” is one of his famous works. He has worked actively for helping the flood and famine affected people of Orissa and for the Oriya literature &culture. He has also participated in many other works in the interest of the country. Radhanath Rath has been awarded the ‘Padmabhusan’ award by the govt. of India in the year 1968. In the same year he also received the Orissa Sahitya Academy award. In 1976 he was felicitated with the Doctorate award by the Berhampur University. He was felicitated with the “Utkal Ratna” award by the Utkal Sahitya Samal in the year 1993. He was a fearless and eminent journalist, good writer, orator, freedom fighter, educationist, politician and a patriotic ruler.
